Council Tax / Stubton Precept: 2025/26

Our council tax increase for financial year 2025/2026 is much less than I anticipated, the overall increase is 3.3% (Stubton’s precept increase is nearly double the inflation rate at 5.6%). And what does the village get for, currently most of the planned precept is spent on its own governance (£999 not including the web management )? 61% of income just to exist.

As yet the 2025/2026 descriptive document is not available on the SKDC website yet, which outlines all the Council Tax Band payments.

I calculate that precept for Stubton will increase from £1,540 to £1,626 in the financial year 2025/26. This is £1,540 + 5.6%. The figures quoted on the PC own minutes are incorrect. See: Item 7.

Judging by the proposed Stubton Parish Council budget of £1,609 (click to view – Appendix 3), this is slightly under the annual revenue of £1,626. However, there isn’t any provision to pay a Clerk, this could be relevant if the current clerk resigns, as SPC may have to pay for a locum or a Full-Time Clerk. A sum of £600 annually has been mentioned by SPC to pay for a clerk should it be necessary (the current clerk is unpaid for a year due to being a Councillor until recently) . Furthermore, during the last few years, Clerks have not taken a salary, which maybe the thinking of the PC.

The overall increase for Band F is 3.3%. SKDC website.
