Litter – Litter everywhere

Why do we accept Litter everywhere……?

I am sure that we all have seen litter on the country lanes around Stubton becoming more of a problem as the years slip by.

EDIT: 8 March 2023: 6 bags collected just North of Brandon (Total – 54 on Stragglethorpe Rd).

EDIT: 21 February 2023: 5 bags collected on Stragglethorpe Road – outside Stragglethorpe (Total – 48).

EDIT: 14 February 2023: 5 bags collected on Stragglethorpe Road – outside Stragglethorpe (Total – 43).

EDIT: (9 February 2023): 6 bags collected on Stragglethorpe Road – close to Stragglethorpe (Total – 38).

EDIT: (7 February 2023): 6 bags collected on Stragglethorpe Road (Total – 32).

EDIT: (4 February 2023): Collected 3 bags on Fenton Road, following the grass cut.

EDIT: (31 January 2023): Collected 7 bags of rubbish and 3 tyres of Stragglethorpe Road (total now 26).

EDIT: (29 January 2023): Collected another full bag on Fenton Road.

EDIT: (28 January 2023): We walked our dog round Stapleford Woods – wow what a mess. I ended up collecting 3 bags of unmentionable stuff (as Max had the litter collecting stuff in her car). Reported a Fly Tip on the A17 to FixMyStreet.

EDIT: (19 January 2023): Seven more bags of litter collected South of Brandon on the Stragglethorpe Road (total 19 to date).

Our NDP talks of litter picks been organised in our village, as yet I have not been around to witness one. I do hope they can be organised soon and probably on the Stubton arterial roads (or another that is identified as requiring our help), as the village is extremely clear of litter. You could argue that a “pick” is therefore not required.

For example – yesterday I filled a bag on Fenton Road (only cleaned very recently). Plus two bags on the Claypole Road today (left at the Village Bus Stop). I noticed, a thoughtful resident had cleared Brandon Road very recently, so I am not the only environmental idiot in the village. Last week I filled 10 bags on Stragglethorpe Road, which was only the tip of the iceberg (much more to do BTW).

If only people thought before littering, Oh and the major culprits are Red Bull and Lager drinkers. There is talk of recycle machines being introduced that I first saw in Hong Kong that will pay you for each can presented, this may reduce littering

NB: Picture of Fenton Road bag. The other concern is Fly Tipping, I seem to report an event on local roads every week to SKDC who are very receptive.
