Site is near All Saints CHurch, Westborough. 1668 HCU Lancaster LM619 had departed Bottesford at 1820 on 15/01/45 for routine Night Bombing practise.
After conducting an overshoot of the airfield, for reasons unknown, the aircraft crashed in a field on the edge of the tiny hamlet of Westbororough. The Rear Gunner was the only survivor.
The enquiry blamed loss of control in a combination of haze and poor visibility for the accident. This was the last fatal aircraft accident at Bottesford during WWII. NB This is an approximate position.
The Memorial has recently been totally revamped and is a fitting place to remember those that gave their lives for our freedom. RIP.
