SPC – Annual Financials

Updated: 15 May 2025

The interesting aspect of the 2025 / 2026 Precept even with an over inflation increase in this financial year of 5.6%, £1617 is theoretically all used for governance or put simply just to ensure SPC exists. Note: that the precept has increased substantially more than inflation each year, except for year 2023/24. If the increase continues at this exponential rate, the rise will be unsustainable. Hopefully it will resort to an inflation rate of 1.7% which no one can object to.

What does the village get for the precept income? Currently most of the precept is spent on its own governance (£999). If the clerk was paid the going rate, which of course the clerk will be next year, this would have left zero to spend on the village in this financial year. This could be an argument to disband the PC, as it is of no financial benefit to the village judging by the budget forecast, except for training a clerk? See the budget to assess how your money is spent. I do concur what a thankless task being a councillor is – no real budget and constant resignations.

Addendum: Judging by the increasing annual balance in previous years it is obvious monies have not been spent, plus the previous clerk never took a salary.
