A huge swathe of land to the North and East of Stubton (totalling 780 acres) is ear marked to become a solar farm.
Secretary of State for Energy Security, Edward Miliband welcomes the additional solar energy in Stubton, stating that the site will potentially generate around 780,000 MWh of electricity annually, or about 150 megawatts (MW) of power, enough to power 34,000 homes in and around Lincolnshire.
The site will be developed over the coming months, after the current crops have been harvested. The land owner stated, that an acre of land used for solar energy can potentially generate significantly more cash than growing crops. He added that solar Lease Income can generate between £800 and £1,000 per acre per year, potentially four or five times more profitable than crop farming. It was also pointed out that Stubton would be entitled to a significant grant once the “farm” came on line.
