Information gleaned from the Cllr Vacancy notice and the “Register of Interests”.
Timeline of events:
Post Edited on 17 January 2025 – see below.
16 December 2024: Meeting where Stubton Parish Council went into closed session to probably discuss the Clerk position and a cunning plan. 🙂 Cllr Mya Watkins had resigned prior to the meeting.
20 December 2024: Meeting where it was decided that the SPC needed a Clerk (rather than a Cllr acting temporarily as a clerk – they clearly realised the current situation was untenable).
The “plan” probably involved Cllr Jackie Britten-Crooks resigning and being appointed the Parish Clerk (the councillor vacancy is signed by Cllr Jackie Britten-Crooks, as clerk). For information, the council is now down to an absolute minimum of 3 councillors to be quorate, until further appointments are made. I am unsure why they did not advertise the clerk position, unless they wanted to keep the position in house (their prerogative, but somewhat unorthodox).
21 December 2024 – 14 January 2024: In this period the plan has clearly been implemented. Cllr Jackie Britten-Crooks appears to have become an unpaid Parish Clerk (a councillor can be employed as an unpaid clerk for 12 months, unless employed by another council). I would hope that the new clerk has the skills to update the SPC website as a matter of urgency (website update skills should be part of the clerks repertoire).
The Register of Interests posted on the SKDC website as of 14 January 2024 are not correct as it shows Cllr Jenny Taylor as Vice Chair. If Cllr Jenny Taylor is the Vice Chair, there is nothing minuted explaining this change from the resigned Mya Watkins (consequently, this must be an error).
NOTE: The only explanation for this and other happenings is that there has been another Extraordinary PC Meeting in January that I have not been aware of?
For transparency purposes, I request that the Stubton Parish Council website and Register of Interests are updated as they do not reflect the correct names and positions held, in case my assumptions are incorrect.
Obviously, they have been watching 2KT and getting some ideas on how to manage this tier of government, as I think their action “stinks”! I can only watch with interest who has been lined up as councillors to join the menagerie.
EDIT: 17 January 2025. I emailed SKDC to point out the errors on the Register of Interests and it now shows correctly, except for the omission of the Chair, who must have a reason for non inclusion.
Footnote: I really don’t want to post negative stuff, but wouldn’t it be nice if SPC adhered to the Nolan principles and guidance from NALC and be open with their actions, by announcing significant changes?
The Vacancy advertisement backs up their recent activity!
The table below depicts the council make up as of 14 January 2025 (today – see below), which as we know is incorrect (strike throughs added by me). https://stubton.parish.lincolnshire.gov.uk/contact

When did Jenny Taylor become Vic-Chair? She has moved from Clerk to Vice Chair without a motion (unless of course this is a mistake).
