Litter Free Roads :)

The country is being buried in litter, it’s an epidemic, which we are all tending to accept. There are some areas where people try, I witnessed Hougham and Marston residents en masse last year clearing the Stragglethorpe Road. However, I think we are a loosing the battle to remove litter.

I personally walked three of the four arterial roads into Stubton this week and bagged the rubbish. A good walk spoilt by collecting litter, I should add! 🙂 When I walk Fenton Road, I collect and leave the aluminium cans/bottles and other detritus in a ditch until I bag it at a later date. I walked part of Doddington Lane before Christmas and reported three separate Fly Tips. However, I try to do Claypole and Brandon Roads when I notice the detritus building up.

Just an observation, the Neighbourhood Development Plan states that Stubton regularly does litter picks, unfortunately I don’t recall one since living in the village over the last 6 years. Therefore, a plea, can the village attempt to organise, maybe twice a year a litter pick? I would suggest one now before the grass grows and one later in the year. I know, there is no appetite to look like a community helper in a Day-Glo jackets (the association with community hours maybe linked to a crime).

The litter you see see below is from Brandon Road (18 January 2025), and this is probably the fourth or fifth time I have done this road in 12 months and on a personal note, I can’t do it for much longer.
