Flooding on Doddington Lane

In recent times Doddington Lane, opposite the Garth has experienced flooding after heavy rains. Residents on Doddington Lane managed to clear the blockage by rodding a drain that was installed in lieu of the previous ditch. Unfortunately, if the ditch that feeds into the drain is not cleared regularly, then obstacles manage to block the drain. The result is a flooded road.

Recently, the planning application S25/1033 made reference to flooding on Doddington Lane and as we know this is nothing to do with land drainage and is thus irrelevant.

Recent Flooding Reports & Community Response

  • Frequent Flooding: Doddington Lane has experienced repeated flooding, especially after heavy rains in January 2025 and December 2023.
  • Drainage Issues: Reports on FixMyStreet highlight that standing water often covers more than half the road. The flooding is frequently linked to blocked drains and ditches, which are sometimes the responsibility of local landowners rather than the council.
  • Council & Landowner Roles: Lincolnshire County Council often investigates but sometimes determines that maintenance is the responsibility of adjacent landowners under “Riparian Responsibilities.” In some cases, the council works with the Internal Drainage Board to enforce ditch clearance.
  • Community Frustration: Residents have expressed frustration over the lack of long-term solutions, especially when flooding creates hazardous conditions for pedestrians and wheelchair users. [fixmystreet.com]
