South Kesteven District Council is inviting residents and local businesses to comment on Council Tax proposals for the 2026/27 financial year.
A two-week consultation opens today (Monday 19th January) on a proposed increase of 2.99% on SKDC’s element of Council Tax. This equates to an average annual increase of £5.66 for a Band D property in South Kesteven – or just under 11 pence per week.
If approved, the average total annual Council tax for a property in Band D for services provided by South Kesteven District Council in 2026/27 would increase from £189.37 to £195.03.
The increase for households in Bands A, B and C (which make up 70% of properties in South Kesteven) would be less than £5.66. Households in Bands E, F, G and H would see higher increases up to a maximum of £11.32.
Feedback from the consultation will be reported back to councillors before they make a final decision at a meeting on Thursday 26th February.
The consultation outlines how SKDC funds the services it provides. It also includes an update on projects under way in each of its priority areas – growth and the economy, housing, healthy and strong communities, the environment and performance.
Cllr Ashley Baxter, Leader of the Council and Cabinet Member for Finance, HR and Economic Development, said: “We are preparing the council’s budget for 2026/27 in a challenging and uncertain environment.
“We have taken into account the impact of the Government’s Fair Funding Review which determines how central funding is allocated to local authorities but there are still uncertainties around the economy, drainage rates and the costs of the new mandatory food waste collections.
“During the last two years, we have saved money by upgrading street lights and heating systems and we have increased revenue by investing in arts centres, leisure centres and car parks.
“The revenue from Council Tax remains one of our most reliable sources of funding and an increase of 2.99% would generate around £405,000 of additional income.
“This would help to fund essential frontline services including refuse collection, street cleaning and CCTV.
“It would also offset the costs of longer-term projects across the district including the new depot at Turnpike Close, which provides an operational base for waste collection and housing maintenance.
“I hope that many residents will take this opportunity to give us feedback.”
