Owners of empty properties are being invited to a free advice event in Grantham next month.
South Kesteven District Council is hosting an Empty Homes Open Day on Tuesday 4th August at the Guildhall Arts Centre.
The drop-in event will bring together a range of specialists who can offer practical advice and guidance to help owners overcome the challenges of bringing empty properties back into use.
Whether a property has been left vacant for years, is tied up in probate, or owners need advice on the next steps, experts will be on hand to help.
Visitors will be able to speak to:
- Fraser and Fraser – genealogists and international probate researchers. For advice on probate enquiries, tracing owners and beneficiaries, family trees and wills.
- Auction House – the UK’s largest residential and commercial auctioneers. For guidance on selling a property at auction.
- SKDC’s Council Tax Team – for queries relating to empty properties.
- SKDC’s Private Sector Housing Team – for advice on renting properties in the private sector.
- SKDC’s Building Control and Planning Team – for advice on planning requirements, building regulations and the options available to bring your empty property back into use.
Cllr Virginia Moran, Cabinet Member for Housing, said: “We know that bringing a property back into use isn’t always straightforward. Issues such as probate and finding the right route to sell or rent can create challenges.
“This event brings together a range of experts under one roof, making it easier for owners to get the advice they need and take the next step towards bringing an empty property back into use.
“I would encourage anyone who owns an empty home or is dealing with one on behalf of a family member, to come along and have a chat.”
There is no need to book in advance. Residents can drop in between 10am and 4pm to speak to the professionals and explore the support available.
The event will be taking place in Guildhall Arts Centre Ballroom, St Peter’s Hill, Grantham, NG31 6PY.
