The expanding village – 9 homes approved, 5 in consultation!

The village is clearly going through a period of expansion. At present, there are 14 proposed new homes, and 9 of these have already been approved by SKDC following a successful appeal. Until today, I was comfortable with the previous applications, but the latest submission dated 10 February has raised some concerns. I expect an Extraordinary Parish Council Meeting will be announced soon so that any issues can be discussed and hopefully resolved before people form their views.

The question now is: who will submit the next planning application? Brandon Road hasn’t featured yet, and there are several parcels of land where others may decide to follow suit.

We all know the likely infill sites and the areas that could be developed (I’ll identify these on a map later). Barkston has just received a planning request for 90 homes, and it’s doubtful that our Neighbourhood Development Plan alone will be enough to prevent larger applications of this scale.

Edit (17 May 2026): According to the Newark Advertiser, application S25/1860 has been approved, meaning 9 homes have now been formally accepted. Our district councillor has also confirmed this approval.
